AirMaid is now installed at one of Europe’s biggest hatchery.
The hygiene requirements are very high since fungal and bacterial infections can threaten to shut down the entire production. Bacteria are often found on the egg shells and many methods for disinfecting the eggs have been tried. Frequently used methods include the use of UV radiation and chemicals. However, there is now a new method to effectively remove bacteria: Ozone.
Scanion A/S, AirMaids partner in Denmark, received an inquiry about whether ozone could be used for effective egg disinfection. Scanion prepared a solution, which consisted of AirMaid 5000-V, a stainless steel fan, a textile duct, a timer and an ozone sensor.
The system is installed in the storage room, where the eggs are kept before being put in the incubator. The eggs remain here for a few days and every night the ozone generator produce an ozone level that disinfects the eggs. Only two hours are needed to get the bacterial levels down to the approved levels.
Given that the eggs are cleaned at night time, the disinfection process has helped improve the efficiency of the whole production chain.
